My name is Jasmine Del Monte and I was born with cardio myopathy. I underwent multiple surgeries, got pacemakers and defibrillators. When I was thirteen (5 years ago) I went through a heart transplant. After my transplant I did very well until January 2, 2009 when I went into the emergency room with what I thought was a stomach ache that ended up being rejection of my heart. I had fluid in my lungs and in the right side of my heart. I got worse as the hours went by and then had my 2nd heart attack. It took the doctors 45 minutes to revive me and as a result ended up on 5 different machines including a respirator and kidney dialysis. Everyone was praying for my survival.
My friend Joey’s Mom told my Mom about Pat Longo and arranged for her to come see me at Columbia Presbyterian in New York City. The day she came, I was very weak and she told me that my heart was a gift and I should not look at it as a disease but to appreciate the new life that I was given. It was a powerful lesson for me to learn. She put her hands over me and said that I would be alright. Every day after that a machine was removed, at the end of the week I was released from the hospital. To me she is a miracle worker. I will never forget her and am so grateful to have met her.
